Mothers Union Gift Shop & Office

Mothers Union Shop in Town Hall Square near Town Hall Station

In the CBD, Town Hall Square Shop 39 is the bricks and mortar home of Mothers Union Sydney. It is our retail shop and office and is a Christian presence and “oasis in the city”.

It is where our members and friends drop off their handmade & donated gifts of High-Quality knitted, crocheted or sewn baby-wear, quilts and craft items to be sold in our shop or organised to be given as gifts.

It is the administration point for our ministries across the diocese and beyond. It’s the place to come for that special card or gift and where a friendly, listening ear can be found. Where smiles are many and where people comment on it’s welcoming atmosphere because of our wonderful staff and volunteers.

All proceeds from the shop support our Christian marriage and families ministries. Drop in and visit us sometime or shop online…

Hospital Visits to New Mums

For 80 years, we have had a ministry to Maternity Hospitals across our diocese. We visit families and welcome new babies into the world with a handmade gift, prayer leaflet, and the Gospel of Luke. For some lonely isolated Mums – who are far from their homes in country NSW, interstate, or newly arrived from overseas or estranged from their families – we might be their only visitors. We see it as a wonderful opportunity to serve our local community.

When things don’t go to plan, we lovingly make and donate special Baby clothes for premature babies who often have various life support lines attached to them in the Neonatal Units.

We also make and supply beautiful grieving layettes for little ones who don’t survive. Families can spend precious moments with their baby and have a tangible memory during a very hard time. This is a true gift of love.

If you sew, we would love to have you make and donate these much-appreciated specialist garments. We then deliver to order to the hospitals.

If you knit or crochet and would like to help make these special baby gift items, booties, caps and more OR if you are interested in volunteering and making hospital visits, please send us your email…

Children & Family Courts

Mothers Union Sydney has a long history of offering support to families in crisis. Our court ministry is part of this work. At the Family Courts and the Children's Courts, we serve refreshments to children, youth and their families as they wait during a difficult and stressful time. We offer tea or coffee and a biscuit, but most importantly a listening ear and the opportunity to chat.  We are there at the request and the invitation of the magistrates as they find the demeanour of the waiting rooms calm down when we are present.

If you can spare one day per month, we would love to have you serve in this important ministry with us. This is a great ministry to do together with your spouse or a friend.

Mothers Union Sydney Members and our friends volunteer at Children’s and Family Courts throughout the diocese includingSurry Hills Children’s Court, Parramatta Children’s Court, Sydney Family Court & Moss Vale Local Court.

If you can help or would like more information, please send us your email…

Fund Church Workers

Since 1990, Mothers Union Sydney has offered seed funding for the employment of additional Church Workers across the Sydney diocese. These gifted and dedicated people are usually funded to serve in family ministry; setting up playgroups, Sunday Schools and Scripture classes, family support, and connecting with the local community to draw families to the Lord.

We work in partnership with churches providing salaries and superannuation for these new staff with the expectation that their ministry will be self-funded in usually 2 to 3 years.

If you would like to make a donation that goes directly toward funding new Church Workers, use the donations button at the bottom of this page.
