MU is a Christian organisation which promotes the wellbeing of families worldwide. We endeavour to achieve this through living out our Mission Statement of sharing Christ’s love by encouraging, strengthening and supporting marriage and family life.
What can MU Australia, Sydney Diocese do for you?
Training:
Provide a network of support for members, group leaders, and organisers (not restricted to MU groups);
Sponsor Parenting Workshops, Outreach, and Christian encouragement meetings.
Resources:
We publish Bible Studies that can be photocopied for use in parishes;
Provide Resource Packs for planning theme-based outreach meetings, such as 'Carols, Candles and Cake';
Sell a variety of Christian cards, family based books, and leaflets;
Video and other resources on family issues are available for loan.
Support:
The members help to support the work of Chaplains at the Children's Hospitals and Women's Prisons;
Over 300 indigenous workers worldwide.
Outreach:
Pay for MU Workers helping with family ministry initiatives in parishes, currently at Moss Vale and Port Kembla;
Members visit over 10,000 new mothers yearly in maternity units;
Distribute St Luke's Gospels and other gifts for new babies;
Supply special garments and other staff requests for hospital neo natal units;
Serve tea and coffee, a ministry at Children's Courts.
Most of all we pray: approx 1,000 members in Sydney Diocese pray daily and systematically for each other and 3.5 million members around the world.

Membership of the worldwide Mothers’ Union (MU) is open to all who have been baptised in the name of the Holy Trinity and who declare support for the Aim and Objects of the Mothers’ Union.
Purpose, Aim and Objects
The purpose of the Mothers’ Union is to be specifically concerned with all that strengthens and preserves marriage and Christian family life.
The aim of the society is the advancement of the Christian religion in the sphere of marriage and family life.
Our objects are to:
- To uphold Christ’s teaching on the nature of marriage and to promote its wider understanding.
- To encourage parents to bring up their children in the faith and life of the Church.
- To maintain a worldwide fellowship of Christians united in prayer, worship and service.
- To promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life and the protection of children.
- To help those whose family life has met with adversity.
