The way we should go
I had a surprise the other day.  I went to a play about a group of parents who ran the local ‘under 10s’ football team.  The play was a musical  and I didn’t really think I would enjoy it. I’d only chosen it because I needed one more play to fill my subscription.

'FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD' - Family Matters with Christine #13

I love preparing food and serving it. I love people enjoying what I have made. I love looking at cook-books and watching programs, especially MasterChef. I even enjoy eating, too!

But one of the things which is very precious to me seems to be under threat today and I wonder whether it is wise of us to give it up so easily. I refer to eating together around a table with no other interruptions or distractions.

Family Matters with Christine #12 "Fathers"

I used to give a talk entitled ‘My Life with Five Men’, admittedly a slightly provocative title but one meant to reflect on my experience as the wife of one man, the mother of three boys and the ‘landlady’ of my father in law. Can you imagine all those shirts and socks? By the way, I did include too, the two daughters I had. Such experience gave me some grounds for talking about men, but, in fairness, not too much. Men can be as mysterious to women as we appear to be to them!

THE VEXED TOPIC OF DISCIPLINE!

This is one of those subjects that there are many opinions on and people often feel quite passionate about their point of view. Let’s start with the word ‘disciple’ and thinking of what that implies. As we know from the New Testament, Jesus gathered disciples around him and gave us the name of disciple for all Christians, all followers of Jesus and it has remained to be used like that. The disciple was one who was taught by the words and deeds of a teacher, tutor or master.

The disciple is ‘shaped’ by the teacher.
